Key Stats
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros have been playing incredibly well as of late to get a massive 4.5-game lead in the AL West entering play on Saturday. Houston has been a solid offensive team as they are 10th in the bigs with a .739 team OPS. Designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has been the team’s most consistent hitter as he has a .306/.395/.545 slash line with 25 home runs, 67 RBIs, 72 runs scored and five steals without being caught on the year.
Lefty Framber Valdez is taking the mound and has been pitching at a great level as he is 13-5 with a 3.20 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 137.2 innings this year. Hitters are not getting many hits against him as he has a .230 opposing batting average thus far. Valdez is coming off a win over the Chicago White Sox as he pitched seven shutout innings where he gave up just three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles are in a tough part of their schedule and are trying to keep up with the New York Yankees in the AL East. Baltimore has been one of the best offensive teams in Major League Baseball
Right-hander Albert Suarez is getting the start in this game for the Orioles and he is doing well on the mound. In 25 games (17 starts) he is 6-4 with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP in 96.1 innings so far. Hitters are unable to hit for power against him as Suarez has given up just six home runs this season. He is coming off a victory over the Boston Red Sox in his most recent game as he threw six shutout innings and allowed seven hits with zero walks and six strikeouts.
Prediction
If the first two games of the series are any indicator, the Houston Astros have been the better team thus far. Houston has the better starting pitcher in this game as the Astros hitters have gotten to Albert Suarez this season, handing him a loss after tallying five runs on 10 hits in five innings against him back on June 23. Baltimore’s pitching as a whole has been shaky since the All-Star break as in their 34 games, they rank 23rd in MLB with a 4.72 team ERA.
The Astros are clicking and the Orioles are going to struggle to get much action against Framber Valdez as he is one of the most electric pitchers in the game. Expect Houston to chalk up another win in this game.
Final Pick
Houston Astros ML (-125)
