Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
As mentioned in the intro, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have started the season red hot, not only winning this past weekend against Georgia State by a score of 35-12 but also winning in Week 0 against Florida State in Dublin, Ireland by a score of 24-21. Because of this start, Georgia Tech has earned the respect of the latest AP Poll and is now ranked #23 in the country. Speaking of this, this is the first time Georgia Tech has been ranked in the Top 25 since 2015.
The Yellow Jackets have also established themselves as a very balanced offense so far this season. As a team, they are averaging more than 200 rushing yards per game and 200 passing yards per game. Led by their biggest playmakers, quarterback Haynes King and running back, Jamal Haynes, the Yellow Jackets look to have one of the best quarterback/running back duos, at least when it comes to the ACC.
Defensively, they have already shown much improvement from 2023 as well. Through their first two games of the season, the Jackets are allowing 16.5 points per game, 124 rushing yards per game, and 201.5 passing yards per game.
Syracuse Orange
The Syracuse Orange are coming off a 38-22 Week 1 win against the Ohio Bobcats. While they were not overly impressive, the Orange used three touchdowns from wide receiver Trebor Pena to overpower Ohio without too much stress. Also having a big game in Week 1 was quarterback Kyle McCord, who threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, the Orange did well to shut down the Bobcats’ passing attack, allowing just 181 yards. However, Ohio rushed for 255 yards, including a 200-yard performance from top running back Anthony Tyus III. Given that the Yellow Jackets have been able to establish both the pass and the run, the Orange will need to improve their defense in a big way this weekend.
Prediction
The hype around Georgia Tech continues to build every week as they are starting to look like a dark horse in the ACC. Syracuse on the other hand, showed signs of struggle against a below-average MAC team in Ohio, especially when it came to defending the run. This may be the first “true” road game for Georgia Tech, but they are simply far more talented than Syracuse with their balanced offense. Because of that, backing Georgia Tech to win this game outright will be our best bet.
