Do you hear that? That noise that is coming from Doak Stadium out of Tallahassee, Florida. The war chant of thousands of Seminole fans while they Tomahawk Chop in unison. A scene that could be straight out of the movie Braveheart as fans dress up like William Wallace or “Running” Zac from the classic Saved by the Bell. The Florida State Seminoles and their fans look to make it back to the College Football Playoff for the first time in ten years and for the second time in school history.
Favorable Schedule for Florida State
The Florida State Seminoles have a very favorable schedule in 2024 as a result of being in a very weak Atlantic Coast Conference. With the new playoff expansion of 12 teams and the winners of the top five-ranked conference winners getting an automatic, this gives the Seminoles a great chance of making it to the CFP.
Florida State is a preseason Top 25 coming in at No.10 after ending last season at No.6. The Seminoles are set to face off only three preseason Top 25 teams: the No.14 Clemson Tigers, No.7 Notre Dame, and interstate rival No.19 Miami Hurricanes. FSU was able to defeat both Clemson and Miami in the 2023 season.
According to BetMGM, Florida State is +150 to make the College Football Playoff which gives the Seminoles tremendous value. In a weak ACC and easier schedule, the Seminoles have to be one of the most intriguing bets to earn some serious dough. FSU also avoids a sneaky NC State on their schedule who has added former Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall.
Florida State QB Looking for Revenge
In his first year as a Seminole, DJ Uiagalelei takes over the reign at quarterback after transferring after one year at Oregon State and three years at Clemson. Uiagalelei expects to be the starter against Clemson on October 5th at home. This senior QB is now going to the dance with a new prom date and wants to prove to his “ex-girlfriend” that he made the right move of kicking her to the curb.
Expect Uiagalelei to absolutely ball out against former coaches and teammates. Athletes get motivation from all kinds of places especially playing their former team. His “it” factor will definitely be on display, especially against the Clemson Tigers. Uiagalelei could lead the Seminoles through the ACC and to the College Football Playoff after the team felt snubbed this past season. The duel-threat QB combined for 27 touchdowns last season as an Oregon State Beaver and on a bigger stage he has +4000 odds to win the Heisman.
Chopping with Florida State
The Seminoles were undefeated last year in the regular season with their only loss against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl. Don’t let that loss scare you, even though the Bulldogs routed FSU to a 63-3 loss. The Seminoles were able to handle every opponent thrown their way except for the defending champs. With the expansion of the College Football Playoff, more teams will get the bid this year than ever before. Look for most of the big brand teams to get the nod over smaller Cinderella stories. Unlike March Madness, which thrives on underdogs and who strikes at midnight, college football is obsessed with powerhouses and power brands.
Prediction for Florida State
As long as the Florida State Seminoles can take care of business against the Clemson Tigers and company expect them to be one of twelve in the College Football Playoff. Take the Seminoles to make the playoffs +150. With these odds, it is definitely worth the risk. There is no reason why Florida State will be left out. We will be hearing the infamous Tomahawk Chop war chant all season long.
