Detroit Pistons vs Brooklyn Nets Preview, Predictions and Odds| March 7 2024

Brooklyn Nets

The Detroit Pistons (9-52) vs Brooklyn Nets (25-37) for a Thursday night game. Although these are two teams with a losing record, Brooklyn has controlled this regular-season series by two games to zero. Furthermore, they beat the Pistons on the road by six points in December. However, they will face each other one more time in Brooklyn this year. But tonight is about one team looking to make up some ground and sneak into the Play-In Tournament. The Brooklyn Nets are three and a half games behind the Hawks.

Meanwhile, the Pistons are looking to save themselves from the embarrassment of not getting double-digit wins for an entire season. Therefore, despite the records, there is something to play for tonight. Both teams will see this as an opportunity to grab a much-needed win.

But do you see Brooklyn continuing their recent form, or will the Pistons get their tenth win of the season?

Key Stats

Detroit Pistons

Detroit Pistons

Detroit last had a win against the Chicago Bulls. Although it has been difficult to capture that elusive next one, there have been times when they’ve played well within games. However, putting together good basketball for four quarters has been a consistent issue. Furthermore, Cade Cunningham comes off a 23-point game against a good Miami Heat team. Moreover, he looks to get at least 20 again tonight. Additionally, Simone Fontecchio has scored at least 15 points in three of his last five games, including a 22-point performance against the Heat. Therefore, these two players need to step up, regardless of anything else.

Although a win is unlikely, this is a Brooklyn Nets team that can be hot and cold. And considering how Cunningham can erupt on any given night, it wouldn’t be completely shocking. However, more likely than not, this team will attempt to keep tonight within striking distance. But they will ultimately be unsuccessful.

Brooklyn is fighting for their postseason lives. Although things haven’t been pretty throughout the year, they are winners of three of their last four games. However, they were on a four-game home stretch. Therefore, it remains to be seen if this team can play well on the road. Although the Pistons aren’t necessarily a good first test, it wouldn’t mean anything to win away from New York for this Brooklyn Nets team. Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas are out. Although they face another road test in the Charlotte Hornets, dropping this game tonight would all but eliminate their chances of competing for a playoff spot.

Therefore, Mikal Bridges needs to be big tonight. He averages 21.0 points per game. Meanwhile, Dorian Finney-Smith is coming off a 20-point outing against the Philadelphia 76ers. Moreover, Lonnie Walker IV scored 19 points off the bench for the Brooklyn Nets. Regardless of who steps up, the entire offensive production cannot rely on Bridges.

Game Prediction

This game should not be particularly close. Although the Brooklyn Nets have a losing record, they have better chemistry and a better overall roster than the Detroit Pistons. Furthermore, they are significantly better on the defensive end. Although road travel is concerning, the overall better quality on the Nets’ side is too much to overlook. Therefore, I am picking them against the spread. Although neither team is necessarily displaying offensive fireworks, I still like the over in today’s game.

The scoring of at least 108 points each is well within both of these teams’ wheelhouses. Additionally, I don’t see either defense being good enough at this point to make enough stops where the point total will be a concern. Therefore, even if the Brooklyn Nets do most of the heavy lifting, I am picking them to not only cover the spread but also help bring the total over.

Final Pick

Brooklyn Nets -2 and Over 216
