Key Stats
Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are coming off a heartbreaking loss last week against the Minnesota Vikings. Caleb Williams played one of his best games of the season. He completed 32 of 47 passes for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns. The dynamic duo of DJ Moore and Keenan Allen were great, combining for 16 catches, 192 yards, and 2 touchdowns. This offense is starting to click under their new play-caller. D’Andre Swift didn’t have the production he would have hoped for with only 30 rushing yards on 13 carries, but he did add 35 receiving yards on 3 catches. Offensively, this team has talent.
Defensively, this team has been very solid this season. They rank 8th in points allowed per game, 13th in passing yards allowed per game, 20th in rushing yards allowed per game, 5th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 12th in sacks, and 7th in takeaways per game. Montez Sweat leads the team with 4.5 sacks. Despite the Bears playing well enough to win in the past two weeks, they have lost due to a blocked field goal and a field goal in overtime. They will have their hands full this week, taking on a red-hot Lions team that is poised to have the NFC run through Detroit come the playoffs.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have been one of, if not, the best team in the NFL and are coming off a dominating win over the Indianapolis Colts last week, 24-6. Jared Goff was good by completing 26 of 36 yards for 175 yards. Jahmyr Gibbs was great with 21 carries for 90 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams combined for 11 catches for 126 yards.
They controlled the time of possession from 37 minutes to 23 minutes. This offense is one of the better offenses in recent memory. They are top five in the NFL in terms of points per game, rushing yards per game, touchdowns, and yards per play.
Defensively, they have been one of the best defenses in the NFL, despite bad injury luck. For the season, they are ranked 2nd in points allowed per game, 25th in points allowed per game, 5th in rushing yards allowed per game, 1st in offensive touchdowns allowed per game, 21st in sacks, and 6th in takeaways per game. Cornerback Carlton Davis is questionable with a knee/thumb injury and didn’t practice the Tuesday leading into the game against the Bears. If he can’t go, that is a big loss for a defense that has had struggles this season against the pass.
Prediction
The Detroit Lions are going to pulverize the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving. Despite the Bears playing good football over the past two weeks, the Lions will dominate the time of possession with Gibbs and Montgomery. Jared Goff has been playing at an MVP-type level this season and we know how dominant this team can play indoors. Lastly, Caleb Williams has been very good over the past two weeks, but the Lions and Aaron Glenn, their defensive coordinator, haven’t allowed a second-half touchdown in the past three weeks. Truly remarkable considering the injuries they have suffered.
