Key Stats
Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a tough loss on the road to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 144-101. In the loss, Dallas was without Kyrie Irving, PJ Washington, Anthony Davis, and Daniel Gafford. Only Davis has been ruled out for this game which is a big loss as he has yet to make his Mavericks debut. Kyrie Irving has averaged 24.3 points per game this season. In his last game, he dropped 28 points on a very inefficient 9/23 shooting from the floor. With Irving, Gafford, and Washington healthy, they are primed for a bounceback win.
For the season, they are ranked 11th in points per game, 8th in field-goal percentage, 10th in 3-point field-goal percentage, 21st in assists per game, 17th in turnovers per game, 10th in rebounds per game, 7th in opponent field-goal percentage, and 4th in blocks per game. The addition of Anthony Davis adds a dominant interior defender and a talented scorer when engaged on the offensive end. This is a great test to see how the team looks without Davis against a Philly team that has been subpar all season.
Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a heartbreaking loss last game against the Boston Celtics, 118-110. Philly was up 26 points in the 3rd quarter and blew the game. That sums up their entire season. They were without a number of their key players, like Joel Embiid, Paul George, Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin, and Eric Gordon. When you are as injury-riddled as the 6ers have been, it’s hard to be competitive. They currently sit 19-29 on the season and 11th in the Eastern Conference.
Tyrese Maxey has picked up the slack without Embiid. Maxey has scored 30 or more in five straight games and nine of the last 14 games he’s played in. With Embiid expecting to play in this game, that makes this team completely different. You add an MVP and one of the more dominant forces we’ve seen in the NBA. He’ll probably be on a minute restriction, which can hurt their chances of winning. If this team was healthy, this team would be in a completely better spot.
Prediction
The Dallas Mavericks are going to win this game over the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite Anthony Davis being out, I don’t think it will be the biggest issue, considering they have Daniel Gafford who will do a solid job against Joel Embiid. With Embiid likely on a minutes restriction, I don’t see Philly having the firepower to keep up. Even with Maxey being sensational over the past two weeks, it’s been a one-man show. Overall, Dallas is the better, healthier team with more to gain with a win than the 76ers. Dallas wins and awaits Anthony Davis’ debut with the Mavs.
