The Charlotte Hornets (15-48) host the Brooklyn Nets (25-38) for a late Saturday game. Charlotte hopes to get back on track after dropping a game against the Washington Wizards. Although they are on a losing streak, that was a game that they should have won. However, as their inability to enter the wound column continues, they hope to do so at home against a Brooklyn team that has undergone a lot this year.
However, the Nets are coming off a bad loss of their own, as they provided the Detroit Pistons with their tenth win of the season. Moreover, the season series is tied at one each, with each side getting a win in the other’s home building. But that was last calendar year, and the teams today will hope to win the regular season series outright.
But do you see the Hornets tonight against the Nets?

Key Stats
Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte has lost their last six games. Although they had a small four-game winning streak earlier, it appears that things are going to get harder before they get better for this team. But there is hope on the horizon. While Brandon Miller is not a Rookie of the Year candidate, he is averaging 16.8 points per game along with 4.2 rebounds. Therefore, a lot of this team’s future will be built around him. Furthermore, he has scored at least 20 points in three of his last games.
But the main person to keep an eye on is Miles Bridges. Bridges scored 32 points in the Washington Wizards loss. Furthermore, he grabbed 12 rebounds, and while the Charlotte Hornets lost the game, he proved that he could be a primary scorer against a weaker team. However, they need someone else to step up and pitch in. Davis Bertans went three of ten from three-point range and scored 11 points against the Wizards, but if someone is going to shoot that many shots, especially from range, then more will need to go in tonight.
Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn hopes to re-emerge as an annual playoff team in the upcoming years. But in order to do so, they will need to increase their level of play and overall cohesiveness. However, they have a great building piece to construct their team around in Mikal Bridges. And although he may be the second-best player with that last name in today’s matchup, he can go off and score big time against the Charlotte Hornets tonight. Furthermore, Dennis Schroder is coming off a 31-point game against the Detroit Pistons.
If he can score at least 25 points while initiating the offense, then that will put the Nets in good shape tonight. Additionally, Lonnie Walker IV contributed a solid 21 points of production off the bench. A win would go a long way for this team, as they hope to sneak into the Play-In tournament this year. It remains a four-game gap between them and the Hawks for the final slot, but anything is possible in the end, although unlikely.
Game Prediction
This game should be closer than what the spread suggests, and although the Nets could get a large victory tonight, I don’t see them beating the Charlotte Hornets by that wide margin. Therefore, I am picking the Hornets to cover the spread tonight. Although these are two teams that can put on bad performances, this overall slate of play leads me to think that it will be an ugly game and that neither side will get a dominant victory tonight.
Unless Mikal Bridges goes for a career-high, expect the Hornets to keep this game closed throughout the game, despite what the line says. Furthermore, a win wouldn’t be totally out of the question for the home team tonight. However, as previously stated, this is more likely than not going to be a back-and-forth game, and not in a good way. Therefore, I am also staying away from the total, as we don’t quite know what to expect from either side in this matchup tonight. The Charlotte Hornets will cover, but in terms of predicting how this game will unfold exactly, that remains the biggest mystery on tonight’s NBA slate.
Final Pick
Charlotte Hornets +6.5
