Home-and-home matchups have been the theme of Week 9 and 10 in the CFL. That is no different on Saturday night as the Tiger-Cats travel to Montreal, seeking revenge for last week’s loss against the Alouettes. Kick-off is at 7:00 pm EST at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
The Ti-Cats are running out of time to be a legitimate contender for a playoff spot. After starting the season 0-5, Hamilton won two in a row before being embarrassed last week. The Als, on the other hand, comfortably hold first place in the East. With the Redblacks tying the Riders on Thursday, a win on Saturday would put them in a great spot.

Key Stats
Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-6)
No matter the records, stats, or trends, anything can happen any given week in the CFL. When talking about betting, the Ti-Cats cannot be trusted. Especially against Montreal. Last week, on the high of a two-game winning streak, and with Montreal QB Cody Fajardo on the sideline, Hamilton had a prime opportunity to bring themselves back into the division. After a tight first half, the Ti-Cats gave it away, allowing 16 points in the fourth quarter.
The Ti-Cats average 318.5 passing yards per game, which is the highest in the CFL. Montreal’s defense held QB Bo Levi Mitchell to 240 yards, which was his lowest total of the season. He had a touchdown and two interceptions and averaged 5.7 yards per completion. The Alouette’s weakness is their rush defense, which allowed RB James Butler to have one of his best games of the season. Butler ran for 69 yards on only 12 carries and caught seven passes for an additional 41 yards. He is fifth in the CFL with 400 rushing yards this season.
For the most part, Hamilton is in the middle of the pack when it comes to defensive stats. In categories such as net offense allowed, rush yards allowed, and pass yards allowed, they are fifth or sixth in the CFL. The one stat that really stands out, especially against the best offense in the league, is their points against. They are dead last in points allowed per game with 31.8. They face another blow in Week 10, as star cornerback Jamal Peters is out for Saturday night’s contest with a thigh injury.
Montreal Alouettes (7-1)
Third-string QB Davis Alexander has stepped in brilliantly the last couple of weeks in place of the injured Fajardo. Backup Caleb Evans was originally benched and then injured for the season last week. Alexander has completed 34-for-45, 440 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in his two games behind center. His yardage doesn’t blow you away, but he’s been efficient and protective of the football. It appears that Fajardo will dress, but Alexander will get the start.
Tyson Philpot continued his terrific season last week, racking up 82 yards on five catches. He is second in the CFL with 772 receiving yards. Charleston Rambo had his most productive game of the year last week, catching four balls on five targets, totaling 86 yards, including a touchdown.
Montreal’s run defense has only been one weakness on the defensive side of the football. They are eighth in the CFL in rush yards allowed, averaging 105.6. They are the top two in yards allowed, and pass yards allowed, and points allowed, averaging only 21 points allowed per game.
Prediction
Typically, it’s hard to beat an opponent two weeks in a row, no matter the league. Still, Montreal -7 is the play in this spot. Hamilton’s pass-and-run defense is admirable, but they are awful in the one stat that matters the most. Against the best offense in the league, third-stringer or not, allowing 31.8 points per game won’t cut it. Mitchell has had a great year for the Ti-Cats, but his worst game came against this same Alouettes team, and we should expect the result to be the same.
Despite taking Montreal here, James Butler over 62.5 (-114) is our favorite prop in this game. As mentioned earlier, the Alouettes’ run defense is the only weakness they have. Montreal allows 105.6 rush yards per game, and although Hamilton’s rushing attack hasn’t been brilliant this season, they will need to lean heavily on Butler to give themselves a chance in this game.
Final Pick
Montreal Alouettes -7 (-112)
