Arizona Cardinals vs. Buffalo Bills Preview, Prediction, & Odds | September 8th, 2024

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are opening their season by hosting the Arizona Cardinals. The Bills are looking to bounce back after a disappointing ending to their season last year, losing to the Chiefs at home in the divisional round. Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals are looking to start a new beginning after selecting Marvin Harrison Jr. as their first-round draft pick this past offseason and having Kyler Murray healthy for an entire season. After a busy offseason for the Bills and a hopeful offseason for the Cardinals, the stage is set as these teams kick off their 2024-2025 season. Let’s jump straight into this game!

The Arizona Cardinals were a story of two different quarterbacks last season. When Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray was healthy, this team had some impressive wins after his return to the field in Week 10. They were able to secure wins over the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles so this could be a team on the rise this season. With the selection of Marvin Harrison Jr. in last year’s draft, Arizona finally pairs Murray with his best receiver since they had DeAndre Hopkins a few seasons ago. The pair should grow together under second-year head coach Jonathan Gannon.

To the defensive side of the Cardinals, this unit was middle of the pack in certain aspects and worse in others. They were in the bottom three in sacks, TDs allowed, and rushing yards allowed per game. Arizona is going to need to step up if they have any hopes of competing in a stacked NFC West. This is a young team that is still learning how to compete and win together. As I mentioned earlier, this is a team that has shown flashes last season when Murray returned and the Harrison-Murray connection should be fun to watch.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills will look to bounce back after last season’s playoff loss. The Bills traded away their best wide receiver Stefon Diggs this past offseason a move that on face value may be worrying for the Bills Mafia. However with the selection of receiver Keon Colman in the first round could have a breakout rookie season. With his 6-3 frame he could be that big body receiver that Josh Allen has been missing. The loss of Diggs could also be addition by subtraction due to him being a number one receiver and Josh now needs to spread the ball around as opposed to “force feeding” Stefon the ball.

To the Bills’ defense, they lost an abundance of talent this past offseason. With the likes of Tre’Davious White and Jordan Poyer, those are big losses to the secondary. With Matt Milano suffering a torn pectoral muscle in practice during training camp, these are big losses. However, under head coach Sean McDermott, the Buffalo has had an excellent defense no matter the personnel. McDermott is a fantastic defensive coach and can almost throw a top-ten defense together with whoever’s on the roster. This could be a year where we see what the Bills are made of.

Prediction

The Buffalo Bills are going to cover the 5.5-point spread in this game. This should not be too much of a shocker. Warm-weather teams, such as the Cardinals don’t have good track records when they travel up north. Now the temperatures haven’t dropped yet, however, I think this is a Josh Allen game when he comes out firing on all cylinders and kicks off the year strong. This is his “make or break” year. Is he that top-five quarterback many believe him to be or is he that reckless cannon that can be boom or bust on any play?

Final Pick

Buffalo Bills -5.5 (-115)
