Boise State Vs. San Diego State Preview, Predictions, And Odds | March 8, 2024

Boise State vs San Diego State

The Boise State Broncos (21-9, 12-5 Mountain West) head to California to take on the San Deigo State Aztecs (22-8, 11-6 Mountain West). This is one of the final regular season games of the year, and it could have big implications for the conference tournament. Four teams, including Boise State, are within one game of the top of the conference. San Diego State is a game behind that group. This game could change seeding drastically.

Their first meeting this season was a back-and-forth affair, with the Broncos hanging on to win, 67-66. The difference in the game was the three-point shooting. The Aztecs only shot 25% from deep which limited their points in the game.

Will this game be another nail-biter, or can the Aztecs get some serious revenge at home?

Key Stats

Boise State Broncos

The Broncos hope to end the season on a high note. However, their offense is not their strong suit. They only make 7.8 threes per game, which is 111th in the nation. As with most teams, they are better at home than on the road, scoring almost eight points less away from Idaho.

Tyson Degenhart leads the Broncos in scoring with almost 17 points per game. Another key player is O’Mar Stanley, who averages 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. If the Broncos are going to win, their defense will be the reason.

San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs have leaned on their defense this season. Similar to Boise State, they rank very low in offensive stats. They average 97.3 points per 100 possessions on offense, which is 131st in the nation. On the flip side, they average 85.9 points per 100 possessions on defense, ranking 24th in the nation.

Their offense goes as Jaedon LeDee goes. He averages over 20 points a game, but if his shot isn’t falling, the Aztecs struggle to find offense.

Game Prediction

At first glance, this seems like a clear under. Both teams are stout defensively and struggle on offense. However, I think the under is too low. In all of the matchups this year, both teams are averaging more than the 137 on the over/under.

In terms of the spread, San Diego State has not done well as big favorites. They are 6-7 when favored by more than 7.5 points this season. Boise State is 1-0 when they are at least a 7.5 underdog, but this isn’t a sample size that is big enough to go off of. Still, the Aztecs tend to play down to their opponent. They get the home win but the game will be close.

Final Pick

Boise State +7.5 and Over 137
