Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a debilitating loss at home last week to the Seattle Seahawks, 34-14. Kirk Cousins wasn’t his normal self. He completed 24 of 35 passes for 232 yards, one touchdown, and three total turnovers, two interceptions, and one fumble. Bijan Robinson was excellent with 143 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown. Drake London had a good game as well, catching six passes for 63 yards, and a touchdown. If the Falcons can replicate some of the success they had last time they played Tampa, they have a chance to take sole possession of the NFC South.

Defensively, this team has been okay at best. They rank 22nd in points allowed per game, 14th in passing yards allowed per game, 24th in rushing yards allowed per game, 12th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 32nd in sacks, and 18th in takeaways. Justin Simmons is doubtful with a hamstring injury he suffered last week. It would be a loss if he can’t go, but Tampa is without their top two receivers. If the Atlanta Falcons can generate a little bit of pressure, this defense would be one of the better defenses in the NFL.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a loss at home against the Baltimore Ravens, 41-31. Baker Mayfield had a decent game, completing 31 of 45 passes for 370 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Rashaad White has his best game of the season with 111 yards from scrimmage and two receiving touchdowns. Cade Otton pitched in eight catches for 100 yards. Both star receivers Chirs Godwin and Mike Evans suffered injuries that will lead Godwin to miss the season and Evans to miss an extended period of time. This is going to be tough sledding until Mike Evans gets healthy for the Buccaneers.

Defensively, they have been one of the worst in the NFL. They rank 28th in points allowed per game, 29th in passing yards allowed per game, 19th in rushing yards allowed per game, 27th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 12th in sacks, and 11th in takeaways per game. Without Jamel Dean again and Tykee Smith for this game, they are thin when it comes to the cornerback position. They must make Kirk Cousins uncomfortable in the pocket and force turnovers or get timely stops to win this game when they are so far undermined.

Prediction

The Atlanta Falcons are going to win this game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and cover the spread. The Buccaneers are too injury-riddled and don’t have the firepower to keep up with a Falcons team that has all kinds of weapons. We saw Tampa struggle to contain Derrick Henry last week and I believe Bijan Robinson can dominate the game differently. Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons win this game and take sole possession of first place of the NFC South in this game!

Final Pick

Atlanta Falcons -2.5 (-115)
