Key Stats
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are coming off a debilitating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The Saints had the ball down three with 1:01 left in the game with a chance to send it to overtime or win it with a touchdown. However, Derek Carr would throw an interception on the drive’s second play to seal a Saints loss. New Orleans’ offense looked to be held in check against Philly, however, Chris Olave got going in this game. Olave caught six passes for 86 yards and the go-ahead touchdown until the Eagles would retake the lead in the 4th.
Despite the loss, the Saints’ defense was good in this game. Outside of Saquon Barkley’s 65-yard touchdown run, he was held to 16 carries for 82 yards. New Orleans’ defense gave up 460 total yards in this game, however, they only allowed 15 points, zero through the first three quarters. NOLA also sacked Jalen Hurts four times and forced two turnovers. They rank 5th in the NFL with 11 sacks and if they want to defeat the Falcons, they are going to have to get Kirk Cousins on the ground.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons will look to bounce back after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs last week on Sunday Night Football. Atlanta had the ball with 56 seconds on a 4th and one to keep their drive alive and potentially score the game-winning touchdown, however, the Chiefs would blow up their run as the Falcons lost 22-17. Bijan Robinson was shut down in the running game with only 16 carries for 31 yards. Kirk Cousins had a solid game with 20-29 passing for 230 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. They weren’t efficient on 3rd down against KC, 2/9 on the “money down” will not be enough against the Saints.
The Falcons’ defense played good but not good enough to win against the Chiefs. They did not sack Mahomes in this game and they rank 31st in the NFL with only three sacks on the season. This is a team that traded for pass rusher Matthew Judon before the regular season and it’s the first game that he hasn’t had at least half a sack. Atlanta’s pass defense has been exceptional, 11th in the NFL in passing yards allowed with only 176.3 yards per game. I think they have one of the best safety duos in the league. Jessie Bates III and Justin Simmons have been exactly what Atlanta hoped them to be.
Prediction
The Atlanta Falcons are going to cover the 1.5-point game spread. The Saints are not the team we saw for the first two games. I believe that the Falcons can limit Alvin Kamara’s touches. Derek Carr came back down to who he has been throughout his career and they’re without their star tackle Ryan Ramczyk and center Eric McCoy is hurt with a groin injury who will require surgery. The Falcons will show up and take the lead in the NFC South.
Final Pick
Atlanta Falcons -1.5 (-115)
