Key Stats
Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves have stayed afloat despite their best player Ronald Acuna Jr. getting injured and out for the rest of the season. They sit with a record of 57-49, which is second in the National League East division. Atlanta will send out their ace Chris Sale in today’s matchup. Sale has been sensational all season long. With a record of 13-3, he has the most wins in the MLB for a starting pitcher and he is sixth in strikeouts. He has been an excellent fit in his first season with the Braves.
To turn to the offensive side of the diamond, it starts with Marcell Ozuna, who leads the team in BA (.305), HRs (31), RBIs (84), OBP (.382), and hits (120). He is not alone, one of his other co-stars Austin Riley is looking to keep his bat hot. In yesterday’s performance, Riley hit 4/5 with an RBI and a home run. However, they are going to need the help of Matt Olson to win this series this afternoon. Olson is still looking for his first hit of the series and the lefty batter is used to hitting the ball out of the warning track.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers have played great baseball at home this season. With a record of 31-20 at home, 61-46 overall, they currently sit top of the National League Central Division. Freddy Peralta will take the mound for Milwaukee this afternoon against the Braves. The strikeout artist will look to bounce back from his last start in which he only had four Ks and three earned runs and couldn’t get out of the fifth inning against a woeful Miami Marlins team.
The Brewers are still without star left fielder Christian Yelich who is still suffering from lower back inflammation. They will be led by their catcher William Contreras. Among all qualifying players, he leads the team in BA (.282), OBP (.352), and hits (117). For an offense that has been in the top ten statistically, it might be tough to generate runs against a veteran pitcher of Chris Sale’s stature. This should make for an exciting game!
Prediction
I am predicting that the Atlanta Braves will defeat the Milwaukee Brewers in this afternoon’s game three. This will be a battle of two very talented pitchers, however, Sale has been dominant against the Brewers batting order in his career, holding them to a .132 batting average. Sale has been hot as well, picking up wins in three of his last four starts. In his last game, he may not have picked up the win, but he went 7.1 innings allowing two runs and striking out nine batters.
Final Pick
Atlanta Braves ML (-126)
