New Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer (formerly the head coach of the Washington Huskies) is the “New Kid on the Block” taking over for legendary college football coach Nick Saban. With a proven track record as a head coach and an appearance in the 2024 National Championship Game with the Huskies, DeBoer is up for the challenge.
Alabama does have a challenging schedule facing five, preseason Top-25 opponents including No.1 ranked Georgia and No.11 Missouri. The Crimson Tide are also going on the road to take on No.13 LSU, No.15 Tennessee, and No.16 Oklahoma. They also face interstate rival, the Auburn Tigers, to end their regular season. The unranked Tigers always bring the fight to the Tide in the Iron Bowl.
So there are some obstacles that Bama has in their way but be optimistic! Just as the WWE’s New Day, one must believe in the “Power of Positivity!” Bama went 4-0 against the teams listed above in 2023 including double-digit wins against the Tennessee Volunteers and LSU Tigers in back-to-back weeks. Also, they have been able to secure back-to-back victories against No.1 Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers last year. One would think even with 2 or 3 losses against top teams would still give Alabama a fighting chance for a twelve team playoff.
March to the Playoff
BetMGM has Alabama at the 9.5 win mark (-110) for this upcoming season. The oddsmakers are predicting a two or three-loss season for the Roll Tide with the gauntlet of games in a row from Week 7 to Week 9 playing the likes of Tennessee, Missouri, and LSU. Even with the tough schedule, the new College Football Playoff format gives a two or three-loss Bama team life to certainly return to the dance.
Their strength of schedule definitely plays a factor in the committee’s decision on who is in and who gets left home without a date. Alabama is a top College Football brand and is one of the top revenue-earning programs in the nation. That alone brings attention to the committee when “swiping right” on the non-automatic bids for the CFP. Bama is no stranger to the CFP, earning eight trips out of 10 years of existence. The eight appearances by the Crimson Tide are not only the most in College Football but also happened with a more exclusive club of only four teams.
Familiar Face has Playoff Aspirations
One can not imagine a party of 12 that doesn’t include the Tide, especially with Quarterback, Jalen Milroe coming back for his Junior year. Milroe will be trying improve on an impressive 2023 season that included 2,834 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and a 65.8 completion percentage. He has also shown the ability to use his legs as a weapon as Milroe added 531 rushing uards and 12 rushing touchdowns. Look for him to have an even better year for Bama with another year of experience under his belt, and trying to increase his NFL Draft stock. Milroe is a preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, who can put this team on his back all the way to the playoffs.
