Plymouth Argyle and Leeds United are set to face each other in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Interestingly enough this will serve as a preview for their upcoming bout on February 17 in league play. However, today the focus is on advancing to the next round!
The away side is understandably favored. After all, they are currently well above Plymouth Argyle in the league table. Additionally, they have been far more consistent throughout the year. This is shown by their third-place standing, while only being a single point behind Southhampton. Although, they are also one game up. Conversely, the home side is sitting in 15th. And although they are clear from the relegation zone, many more losses will make it an interesting finish to the season.
However, the head-to-heads indicate that this will be a much closer match than what the league tables are saying. While Leeds have won three out of the last five, they were all by a single goal. Additionally, Plymouth Argyle tied two of those matches. The last match resulted in a draw at Leeds. This game resulted from an initial 1-1 draw.

The home side will be looking to impress in front of their fans! The new man in charge of Plymouth Argyle, Ian Foster has yet to lose. In five games, he has won three times and tied twice. However, they now face one of the better Championship teams in Leeds.

Going forward for Plymouth Argyle has not been the issue, rather they have allowed a lot of pressure on their own goal. Keeper Conor Hazard will need to have a strong performance today. Additionally, they will be looking for Morgan Whittaker and Ryan Hardie to lead the charge going forward. While they have conceded a lot throughout the season, they are starting to shape up. In the last five games, they have not conceded more than a single goal in the match. Giving up one, they can live, but even if they give up more, there’s enough quality to win a high-scoring game.

Conversely, Leeds required less of their goalkeeper as the team does a better job of stopping opposing attackers in their tracks. They have their fair share of clean sheets while facing significantly fewer shots. However, Pascal Struijk and Dan James are not expected to be available as they are recovering from injury. Also, Jamie Shackleton has an illness and is unlikely to even travel with the team.
Additionally, it is important to take note of the striker’s position. Jaidon Anthony starting over Crysencio Summerville is expected. Anthony scored a nice opening goal in their most recent matchup against Plymouth as he will be looking to do the same again. While they are overall the better side, it’s not hard to envision this being a close contest, hence why the spread is where it is at.
Game Prediction
While Leeds possesses a high ceiling, this game will likely not be decided in regulation. Plymouth Argyle is resurging and they are looking much improved under the new manager. Regardless of how the game unfolds at first, the home team is good enough to chance a late equalizer, or even lead from the start. Regardless, they are likely to score at least once.
This is why I like the underdogs to cover the spread for today. However, I think 3.5 is too high to consider. Even though Plymouth can be sloppy, they just have a way of keeping opposing teams out of the back of the net. Plymouth to advance at +220 is very tempting, but I feel confident that they will get the job done in the first 90 minutes.
Final Pick
Parlay: Under 3.5 and Plymouth Argyle +0.5
