Marquette Golden Eagles vs Georgetown Hoyas: How will Marquette Be Able To Cover The Spread?

The Marquette Golden Eagles are one of the hottest teams in college basketball! However, they are coming off of an impressive win against Villanova. Could this be a setup for a potential letdown game, despite their better roster talent? Doubtful, but one thing is for certain! Even if undermanned, Georgetown will do everything it can to pull off the upset today, even though their record is nowhere near where they would like to be.

The Marquette Golden Eagles (16-5) travel to the Georgetown Hoyas (8-12) and even though these are two Big Easy blue bloods, this season is shaping up differently! Even with the tough conference schedule, Marquette is currently on a five-game winning streak. In contrast, Georgetown is on a five-game losing streak.

However, we have often seen two teams on different season trajectories play tight games when least expected. But everything is pointing toward a completely different result.

Marquette Golden Eagles

The Marquette Golden Eagles suffered earlier setbacks, but remain one of the best teams in college basketball. Despite some non-conference hiccups, they have played well in Big East play. Their most impressive win came on the road against Villanova even though many considered them one of the better teams in America. For many the question will be not if Marquette can win, but if they can cover the double-digit spread.

However, when you have one of the nation’s best in Tyler Kolvek, this looks like more of a certainty. Kolvek has been phenomenal for the Marquette Golden Eagles. He leads the team with 15 points per game. Kolvek can create his shot, but he is most deadly running the offense. He averages an impressive 7.2 assists, and only 2.9 turnovers, even though he is the primary ball handler for extended minutes on this team.

Aside from a close loss against Xavier, regardless, a lot of the recent losses have been ugly. This has not been a good year, despite hopes for a late-season push, things are not looking better. And they will not likely improve their record, even if they improve their play on the court.  Regardless of how this game goes, their schedule does not ease up any time soon. They are playing the Marquette Golden Eagles at the worst possible time for them!

However, there is one hope. Jayden Epps is their best scoring option and has the potential to go off at any point, even if the rest of the team is struggling. Epps averages 19.2 per game while dishing 4.5 assists. However, he can often force things, as he also has nearly four turnovers a game by himself.

Game Prediction:

This game will likely not even be close. Regardless of this being a home game for Georgetown, the Marquette Golden Eagles are the better team and are playing like it! In all honesty, this game may have a spread that is too low, Marquette could be favored by more and I’d still be comfortable taking it.

For me, the only question will be if the game is essentially over at halftime, or if Georgetown can keep it close for long enough to make this interesting. However, taking the Marquette Golden Eagles and seeing a later backdoor cover on the over in garbage time are the safe bets.

Final Pick:

Over 152 and Marquette Golden Eagles -12
