Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a tough loss on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-13. Quarterback Russell Wilson was subpar in the game. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Without star receiver George Pickens, who missed his second straight game with a hamstring injury, Calvin Austin III led Pittsburgh with 65 receiving yards on 5 catches.

Pat Freiermuth was solid with 3 catches for 22 yards and a touchdown. Lastly, they lost the time of possession battle by 20 minutes to 40 minutes, it is hard to be competitive in the NFL when you lose the battle by that margin.

Defensively, this team has been one of the best all season. They are ranked 6th in points allowed per game, 22nd in passing yards allowed per game, 4th in rushing yards allowed per game, 6th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 14th in sacks, and 1st in takeaways per game. When you look at the injuries, Pittsburgh has some key names to look at.

George Pickens is listed as questionable with that hamstring injury I mentioned earlier. On the defensive side, TJ Watt, DeShon Elliott, Donte Jackson, and Larry Ogunjobi are all listed as questionable. It will be interesting to see if any of those players miss this game.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens dominated last week against the New York Giants, 35-14. Lamar Jackson was sensational. He completed 21 of 25 passes for 290 yards and 5 touchdowns. Jackson also added 65 yards rushing on 6 carries. Rashod Bateman had a great game with 80 receiving yards on three catches and 2 touchdowns. Derrick Henry had a subpar game by his standards. He finished the game with 67 rushing yards on 14 carries. Zay Flowers had a solid game with 6 catches for 53 yards. When this offense is clicking, there aren’t many teams that can keep up with Baltimore.

Despite not having a great start to the season, this Ravens defense has picked it up over the past month. For the season, they are ranked 22nd in points allowed per game, 31st in passing yards allowed per game, 1st in rushing yards allowed per game, 16th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 3rd in sacks, and 25th in takeaways per game.

In terms of injuries, they have a few key names to look at. Rashod Bateman, Nelson Agholor, Ar’Darius Washington, and Odafe Oweh are all questionable heading into this game. We know how Steelers/Ravens games go and it should be a very physical game.

Prediction

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to cover the 6.5-point spread in this game against the Baltimore Ravens. We know Mike Tomlin is the best underdog coach in NFL history and that this game will be low-scoring. We saw in the first game against these two rivals that Pittsburgh pulled off the upset without scoring any touchdowns. Lamar Jackson has struggled against the Steelers in the past. I give the Steelers a great chance to pull off the upset and clinch their first AFC North title since 2020, but the points are too much to pass by. Steelers cover the spread is the play in this AFC North matchup.

Final Pick

Pittsburgh Steelers +6.5 (-120)
