Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a dominating win last week against the Miami Dolphins, 30-17. Jordan Love was great in the game by completing 21 of 28 passes for 274 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Josh Jacobs was excellent with 117 yards from scrimmage, 43 rushing and 74 receiving.

Tight end Tucker Kraft led the team in catches and receiving yards with 78 yards on 6 catches. If the Packers are going to win this game against the Lions, this offense needs to continue to be the top-five rushing attack they have been this season.

The Packers’ defense has been above average this season. They are ranked 9th in points allowed per game, 17th in passing yards allowed per game, 8th in rushing yards allowed per game, 12th in offensive touchdowns allowed per game, 12th in sacks, and 4th in takeaways per game.

Green Bay’s defense will be without all-pro cornerback Jaire Alexander who is missing his second consecutive game with a knee injury. That is a massive loss going against your division rival and a team that is 5th in the NFL in terms of passing yards per game.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions defeated the Chicago Bears last week, 23-20. Jared Goff was solid in the game against Chicago, completing 21 of 34 passes for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. The dynamic duo in the backfield of Detroit of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs feasted. They combined for 228 yards from scrimmage, 175 rushing yards, and 53 receiving yards.

Amon-Ra St. Brown continued his solid play. He caught 5 passes for 73 yards. This offense has been the best all season. They rank in the top five in points per game, passing yards per game, offensive touchdowns scored, and yards per play.

This defense has been one of the best defenses this season. Detroit’s defense is ranked 2nd in points allowed per game, 25th in passing yards allowed per game, 5th in rushing yards allowed per game, 1st in offensive touchdowns allowed, 14th in sacks, and 6th in takeaways per game.

Despite the great numbers, they are without several defensive players who suffered injuries against the Bears. DJ Reader and Malcolm Rodriguez aren’t household names but were playing at high levels and will be missed in this game going against a top-five rushing attack in the NFL.

Prediction

The Detroit Lions will beat the Green Bay Packers and cover the spread in this game. Despite the injuries, the Lions have been one of the best teams all season long. Playing at home is a big advantage for the Lions. The atmosphere is as electric as it’s ever been. I think that Jaire Alexander missing this game will be huge for a defense that is middle of the pack in terms of passing yards allowed per game, going against a team that is top five in passing yards per game. Detroit jumps out to an early lead and forces the Packers to abandon the run early. Lions win 27-20 and move to 12-1 on the season.

Final Pick

Detroit Lions -3.5 (-104)
