Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a loss to the Buffalo Bills last week, 30-20. Anthony Richardson will be back under center for this game. After being benched the past two games for Joe Flacco, maybe it was good for him to sit behind Flacco and learn for a few games. Jonathan Taylor was excellent last week, rushing for 114 yards on 21 carries. Alec Pierce had a great game, catching four passes for 81 yards, and a touchdown. Despite the losing record, this is a dominant running team. Taylor is 8th in rushing yards per game with 103.4. If the Colts will pull off the upset, he must continue his dominant play.

This defense, on the other hand, has been a below-average defense in the NFL. They rank 16th in points allowed per game, 27th in passing yards allowed per game, 29th in rushing yards allowed per game, 17th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 23rd in sacks, and 8th in takeaways per game. Three players are tied with the team lead in sacks with 3.5, Grover Stewart, Kwity Paye, and DeForest Bucker. If they can force Aaron Rodgers to drop back 30+ times in this game, that will be the recipe for success for this game as the Jets’ offensive line has been bad this season.

New York Jets

The New York Jets are coming off a debilitating loss against the Arizona Cardinals last week, 31-6. Aaron Rodgers was terrible, completing only 22 of 35 passes for 151 yards, zero touchdowns, and a fumble lost. Breece Hall had a solid game with 83 yards from scrimmage, 52 rushing and 31 receiving. Davante Adams didn’t catch a pass till the second half and finished with six catches for 31 yards on 13 targets. This offense has the firepower to move the ball and they only had 207 yards of offense last week. This is a bad team with a struggling offensive line that gave up three sacks.

The Jets’ defense has been solid statistically. However, they have not played like the great defense they were last year. They rank 10th in points allowed per game, 2nd in passing yards allowed per game, 25th in rushing yards allowed per game, 11th in offensive touchdowns, 5th in sacks, and 29th in takeaways per game. Linebacker CJ Mosley is still out with a neck injury. This defense must limit the damage Jonathan Taylor can do this week. If they can slow him down, that will force a dropback game from Anthony Richardson, a QB who has been known to be turnover-prone.

Prediction

The Indianapolis Colts will cover the 3.5-point spread in this game against the New York Jets. The Jets are not a good team. They have fallen off a cliff due to their expectations of the “savior” Aaron Rodgers. Now the Colts aren’t a great team either, however, I expect Jonathan Taylor to DOMINATE this game. He is 6th in the NFL in terms of carries per game with 18 and 8th in rushing yards per game with 103.4. This is one of the more dynamic rushing teams in the NFL, especially with Anthony Richardson back under center.

Final Pick

Indianapolis Colts +3.5 (-102)
