New York Jets

The New York Jets are coming off a demoralizing loss last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, 37-15. Aaron Rodgers completed 24 of 39 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown, and two picks. Runningback Breece Hall was excellent with 141 yards from scrimmage, mostly through the air with six catches for 103 receiving yards. In his first game with the Jets, Davante Adams was subpar, catching three passes for 30 yards on nine targets. This should be a game where the offense can get their confidence going just like earlier in the season. Last meeting, the New York Jets won 24-3 in week three.

The Jets’ defense has been good this season. This defense is ranked 11th in points allowed per game, 2nd in passing yards allowed per game, 16th in rushing yards allowed per game, 9th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 8th in sacks, and 22nd in takeaways per game. They will be without defensive backs Tony Adams, Chuck Clark, and Ashtyn Davis in this game. The Jets are facing rookie quarterback Drake Maye in this game, which could lead to opportunities to force turnovers and get this game out of the Patriots’ reaches in a hurry.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are coming off a debilitating loss last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars 32-16 and sit 1-6 on the season. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye was solid despite the loss. Completing 26 of 37 passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns, and a passer rating of 109.7. It seems the Patriots might have found their QB of the future. Hunter Henry had a big game as he caught eight passes for 92 yards. New England must be better with their rushing attack. They only had 38 rushing yards in last week’s loss. If there is a weak point in the Jets’ defense, it is their rushing defense.

The Patriots’ defense has been bad this season. They rank 24th in points allowed per game, 24th in passing yards allowed per game, 21st in rushing yards allowed per game, 22nd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 23rd in sacks, and 18th in takeaways. To put it kindly, this unit isn’t very good. However, they do have a path to make it difficult for Aaron Rodgers. If they can dominate the interior of the offensive line of the Jets, it could be a pathway to some success in this game.

Prediction

The New York Jets are going to cruise to a victory in this game over the New England Patriots and cover the spread. I know seven points is a lot to lay in a divisional matchup. However, I am taking the team with a higher upside and more offensive firepower in this game. It’s a battle of two below-average teams, but the Jets have the need and hope of stringing positive games together and competing for a wildcard spot. While the Patriots are looking to see the development of Drake Maye.

Final Pick

New York Jets -7 (-110)
