Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are coming off an impressive win last week against the Washington Commanders, 30-23. Derrick Henry continued his dominant season last week, with 24 carries for 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Lamar Jackson was efficient again, completing 20 of 26 passes for 323 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. For the season, the Ravens’ offense ranks 4th in points per game, 8th in passing yards per game, 1st in rushing yards, 1st in offensive touchdowns, 1st in yards per play, and 27th in turnovers per game.

Defensively, they have been great against the run and abysmal against the pass. Their defense ranks 24th in points allowed per game, 31st in passing yards allowed per game, 1st in rushing yards allowed per game, 22nd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 5th in sacks, and 21st in takeaways per game. They have their hands full this week against a Tampa Bay offense that is excellent through the air. We know Tampa can be pass-heavy and have the weapons to take advantage of a secondary that is second to last in passing yards allowed per game in the NFL.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New Orleans Saints last week 51-27. Baker Mayfield was good despite throwing three interceptions, two hit his receivers in the hands. Mayfield completed 24 of 36 passes for 325 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Chris Godwin had another great game. Godwin caught 11 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard touchdown. Both their runningbacks, Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker, combined for 297 yards from scrimmage. 28 carries for 217 rushing yards and five catches for 70 yards. This offense has the firepower to compete with anyone in the NFL.

Tampa Bay’s defense has been middle of the pack this season. They rank 19th in points allowed per game, 28th in passing yards allowed per game, 11th in rushing yards allowed per game, 16th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 9th in sacks, and 10th in takeaways per game. This defense is starting to get healthy. We saw Tampa have unfortunate injury issues to start the season and their secondary is getting healthy at this point in the season. However, to defeat the Baltimore Ravens this week, they must stop the run or at least limit the damage Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson do on the ground.

Prediction

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to upset the Baltimore Ravens in this game. Tampa Bay’s passing offense has been electric all season long and they are going against a defense that has not been very good through the first six weeks of the season. Two weeks ago, we saw them allow a team with similar firepower on offense, the Bengals, to go for 392 passing yards and five touchdowns. The only thing that could be an issue for the Buccaneers is their ability to stop the run. However, I expect Vita Vea and the Bucs’ defensive line to minimize Derrick Henry in this game enough for Tampa to upset the Ravens.

Final Pick

Tampa Bay Buccaneers ML +160
