The New York Mets were able to get off on the right foot as they secured an 8-4 road win in Game 1 of the series. The Mets were able to go 7-of-33 with five walks and eight strikeouts in the game. Tyrone Taylor’s double and Jesse Winker’s triple were the only extra-base hits for the Mets in the first game. The lineup was able to dominate as they were 5-of-7 with runners in scoring position while only leaving four men on base. Luis Severino pitched well enough as he recovered by allowing four runs (three earned) in six innings of work while securing the victory.

Southpaw Sean Manaea (12-6, 3.47 ERA) is going to be on the mound for Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series here. He was able to pitch incredibly well and limit what opposing hitters have done as hitters have a .202 batting average against throughout the year. Manaea pitched against the Brewers once back on Sept. 27 as he lost by going 3.2 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits with a pair of walks and a single strikeout.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off an 8-4 home loss in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series and have their backs against the wall. They were able to hit well as the team went 8-of-34 with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. The team had two doubles by Brice Turang and Sam Frelick hitting one were the only extra-base hits for the team. Milwaukee went 4-of-13 with runners in scoring position while stranding six Brewers on base. Freddy Peralta did a decent job as he threw four innings and gave up three runs in a no-decision.

Righty Frankie Montas (7-11, 4.84 ERA) is going to be on the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 and he is looking to improve in the postseason in his first full season back from shoulder surgery. He struggled as he allowed a career-high 24 home runs this season over the course of 150.2 innings.  Montas faced the Mets once this season and did not factor into the decision on Sept. 27 as he pitched four innings and gave up two runs on two hits with one hit by pitch, three walks, and six strikeouts.

Prediction

The New York Mets have played 27 innings of baseball over the previous 48 hours and eventually the pitching staff is going to struggle a bit. The Brewers were able to hit well throughout the season and should be able to dominate with their bullpen, which ranked second in Major League Baseball with a 3.11 reliever ERA. The Mets are similar offensively but the Brew Crew are the better team so go with the Milwaukee Brewers to win this game and force Game 3.

Final Pick

Milwaukee Brewers ML (-120)
