Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves Preview, Prediction, & Odds | August 4th, 2024

Miami Marlins, Jonah Bride

The Atlanta Braves are hosting the Miami Marlins in final game of their four-game series on Sunday afternoon. The Marlins are coming off their first win of the series after last night’s 4-3 win over the Braves. Meanwhile, the Braves are looking to get back to stacking wins. With the Braves sitting second in the NL East, five games back of the Phillies, Atlanta needs to start stacking wins and in a hurry.

Key Stats

Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins have been a poor team all season long. With a record of 41-70, they currently are sitting in last place in the NL East Division. Although they beat the Braves last night, previously, they were losers of two straight and four of the last five heading into that matchup. The Marlins will send Edward Cabrera on the mound for this game. Cabrera, who has a record of 1-3 this season, has not given Miami a quality start since his first start of the season on April 15th (nine starts since). They are going to need a big game from him in order to pull this game out.

To turn to the offensive side of the dish, the Marlins have been a bottom-three offense for most of the year. Since trading star player, Jazz Chisholm Jr, they have struggled to score runs. Shortstop Xavier Edwards is expected to be the team’s biggest offensive threat after the trade deadline and is hitting at a strong level thus far. They have a record of 2-4 and have only put up more than three runs in two of those games, the two games they won in that stretch. This team has nothing to play for at this point in the year. Lastly, they have a record of 19-36 on the road.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have been a solid team over the last ten games. With a record of 6-4, before losing to the Miami Marlins yesterday, they were on a four-game win streak. The Braves will be sending out Max Fried for today’s game. Fried, who will start his first game back from suffering left forearm neuritis, will look to pick up where he left off. Before the All-Star break, he pitched a quality start. Max went six innings, only gave up one run, and struck out seven batters.

As for the offensive side of the diamond, the Braves are led by All-Star, Marcell Ozuna. Among all qualified batters, he leads the team in batting average (.300), home runs (32), RBIs (86), OBP (.374), and hits (123). After homering last night, he will look to stay hot. The Braves will continue to stay solid offensively, over their last ten games, they have scored four or more runs in seven of those games.

Prediction

I am predicting that the Atlanta Braves will stomp the Miami Marlins. The Braves were playing good baseball until yesterday’s slip up. With the Braves needing to keep up with the rest of the playoff contenders in the National League, they can not afford to let these games and series slip away from them.

Final Pick

Atlanta Braves -1.5 (-132)
