UConn Huskies vs San Diego State Aztecs Game Preview, Prediction, Odds | March 28, 2024

UConn Huskies

The one-seed UConn Huskies (33-3) take on the five-seed San Diego State Aztecs (26-10) in the 2024 NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. As part of the East Region, the game will take place in Boston, MA on Thursday at 7:39 PM ET. The first two games of UConn’s tournament have been complete routs, while San Diego State outlasted UAB before handling Yale in the second round.

After meeting in last year’s NCAA Championship Game, who will come out on top in 2024?

Key Stats

San Diego State Aztecs

San Diego State is led by Senior Forward Jaedon LeDee. He led the team in both scoring and rebounding in the regular season with 21.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. The TCU transfer has delivered so far during March Madness, averaging 29 points and 8.5 rebounds on 68% shooting in the wins over UAB and Yale. He was held to just 7 points in last year’s National Championship Game. If UConn stifles him again, SDSU will be in trouble.

UConn has dominated so far in the tournament. They’ve won their first two games by an average of 28 points. The Huskies’ back court of Tristen Newton and Cam Spencer have been unstoppable all season and they’ve kept that trend alive in March. In their wins over Stetson and Northwestern, the All-Big East guards have combined to average 29.5 points and 12.5 assists per game.

Game Prediction

This is the matchup we’ve been waiting for: the rematch of last year’s title game. At 33-3, UConn has been near-perfect in its quest to become the first back-to-back National Champions since 2007. San Diego State is one of the most experienced teams in the bracket and led by a budding star in LeDee. In the end, it’s very tough to imagine the freight train that is the UConn Huskies getting derailed in just the Sweet 16. I think UConn wins the game, but the Aztecs keep it closer than 11 points.

Final Pick

San Diego State +11 and Over 135.5
