Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide find themselves in the Sweet 16 for the second straight year. This year, Alabama has had the highest-scoring offense in the nation, averaging 90.7 points per game. The Tide love to play up-tempo and welcome any team that wants to have a track meet with them. Mark Sears leads the way for Alabama, averaging 21.5 points per game. The bugaboo for this team is they can’t play a lick of defense or have just opted not to this season.
North Carolina Tar Heels
A year after missing the tournament completely, the Tar Heels are back in the Sweet 16 for the 31st time in program history. North Carolina is led by seniors RJ Davis (21.3 PPG) and Armando Bacot (14.4 PPG, 10.2 RPG). North Carolina has been consistent on both sides of the ball all year and won the outright ACC regular season title after sweeping rival Duke. Also, they have won 10 of their last 11 games.
Game Prediction
There is no doubt Alabama’s offense can outscore anyone in the country. The biggest worry for me about Alabama is they only have one way to win this game, a run-and-gun shootout. An experienced team like North Carolina will not let the Tide dictate the tempo of this game and be able to play how they want to. The North Carolina Tar Heels can’t fall into the trap and have the Alabama pace become contagious. I’ll take UNC to cover because I trust them more and they have actually shown an ability to defend, unlike Alabama.
