Houston Rockets vs. Washington Wizards Preview, Prediction, and Odds| March 19, 2024

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets will travel to Washington tonight to battle a struggling Wizards team. The Rockets are coming off a 117-103 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Washington is coming off a 130-104 loss to the Boston Celtics. Can Jalen Green and the Rockets pick up another win without rising star Alperen Sengun or will the Wizards stun them and defend home court?

Key Stats

The Houston Rockets are currently 11th in the Western Conference standings and just on the cusp of missing the play-in tournament. Their star player, Alperen Sengun, suffered a high ankle sprain and bone bruise on March 10 against the Sacramento Kings, and it was announced that he would miss the rest of the season. He led the team in scoring and rebounding with 21.1 points per game and 9.3 boards per game. Fred VanVleet leads the team with 8.2 assists per game and 3.0 three-pointers made per game.

The Washington Wizards are currently 15th in the Eastern Conference standings and have the worst record in the NBA. Kyle Kuzma leads the team with 22.4 points per game. Big man Marvin Bagley leads the squad with 8.6 rebounds per game while Tyus Jones is averaging a team-high 7.3 assists per game.

Game Prediction

While the Houston Rockets will most likely participate in the lottery once again, they have shown their competitive spirit throughout the season and it can be seen right now, as they are currently on a 5-game winning streak. On the other hand, Washington has been one of the worst teams in the NBA. It doesn’t help that they will be depleted in this game, as many key rotational pieces will be sitting out.

Despite losing Alperen Sengun for the season, the Rockets have gone 3-0 so far without him, including an impressive victory over a talented Cleveland Cavaliers squad. These two teams faced off on March 14 where Houston won by 16 points. Based on the circumstances in this game along with how both these teams have been looking as of late, I am picking the Houston Rockets to cover the spread on the road.

Final Pick

Houston Rockets -9 (-110)
