Dallas Stars (+550)
The Stars (50-22-5) have used their usually stingy defense to put themselves again in a position to make a run at the Stanley Cup. With goalies Jake Oettinger (36-15-4, 2.46 GAA) and Casey DeSmith (14-7-1, 2.38 GAA), Dallas can hang with the best teams in the league and this team is pretty good at Home (28-8-2).
The Stars have some solid scorers in Matt Duchene (79 points), Jason Robertson (78 points), Wyatt Johnson (68 points), and Roope Hintz (65 points). But navigating the Western Conference and getting to the Stanley Cup Finals will be challenging. Dallas last went to a Stanley Cup Finals in 2020, where it lost to Tampa Bay in 6 games.
Florida Panthers (6/1)
The defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers (44-29-4) are good at Home (24-11-2) and average away and were in the midst of a 5-game losing streak heading into play on Monday. Getting through the Eastern Conference Playoffs will be harder this time around for Florida. Sam Reinhart (78 points), Aleksander Barkov (67 points), Matthew Tkachuk (57 points), and Sam Bennett (50 points) lead the Panthers in scoring, In net is dependable veteran Sergei Bobrovsky (31-18-2, 2.44 GAA), so seeing this club back in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2025 would surprise very few. This team lives for the playoffs.
Carolina Hurricanes (+850)
Rod Brind’Amour went out and got forward Taylor Hall (Blackhawks) for the Hurricanes (46-26-4), and Carolina has been dominant at Home (30-8-1). With two solid Goalies in Pyotr Kochetkov (26-14-3, 2.57 GAA) and Frederik Andersen (13-6-0, 2.11 GAA), there will be no easy games for opponents in the playoffs, and Brind’Amour can mix the two effectively.
On the attack, the Hurricanes are led by Sebastian Aho (70 points), Seth Jarvis (61 points), Martin Necas (55 points), Andrei Svechnikov (45 points), and Shayne Gostisbehere (44 points). Avoiding injuries will be a big issue for Carolina. Svechnikov, William Carrier, Jordan Staal, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi are all nursing injuries right now, and Andersen spent a lot of time healing this season.
Edmonton Oilers (10/1)
The Oilers fell just one period short of winning the Stanley Cup last season, losing to the Panthers in a thrilling 7-game series. So, can Canada get its first Stanley Cup since 1992-93 when the Montréal Canadiens were NHL champs? Edmonton will get Leon Draisaitl (106 points, 52 goals) back for the NHL Playoffs, and with Connor McDavid (90 points, 64 assists), Evan Bouchard (62 points), and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (49 points), they can score with anyone in the league. But the big question, as always, is: Can the Oilers stop anyone from scoring against them?
Winnipeg Jets (11/1)
The Jets (52-21-4) have had the best record in all of the 2024-25 NHL Regular Season and have been the most consistent team, but oddsmakers aren’t putting any value in that. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck (43-12-3, 2.04 GAA) is having a career year, but Winnipeg (28-8-2 at Home) will likely only go as far as Hellebuyck, and he can’t start every game, can he?
On offense, the Jets are led by Kyle Connor (91 points), Mark Scheifele (63 points), Nikolaj Ehlers (63 points), Gabriel Vilardi (61 points), and Josh Morrissey (56 points). At these 11/1 odds, there is some perceived value with backing Winnipeg, but the Western Conference is loaded with the Stars, Golden Knights, Oilers, Avalanche, and maybe even the red-hot Blues (W12-13).
Final Thoughts and Stanley Cup Winner Pick
If the Blues squeeze into the NHL Playoffs, nobody will want to play them, and this recent run is reminiscent of 2019 when St. Louis went on a late-season tear to win the Stanley Cup. And who was their Goalie back then? None other than Jordan Binnington (27-21-4, 2.68 GAA). This team isn’t scared of anyone right now and, at 41/1 odds, is worth a look.
But the team that looks to provide the most value at these odds are the Oilers. Getting Draisaitl back will be huge and expect Edmonton to want to score its way back to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Oilers remember how close they came last year and should be driven by those bitter memories. And if the Oilers somehow end up facing the Blues in the Western Conference Playoffs, we will have quite a story. Canada needs a Stanley Cup bad.
Final Picks
Oilers 10/1, Blues 41/1 (longshots)
