New York Mets vs Minnesota Twins Preview, Prediction, and Odds | July 28th, 2024

New York Mets

The New York Mets are looking to get back to their winning ways after splitting their four-game set against the Atlanta Braves, including losing the last two games. However, it won’t be easy as they’re hosting a Minnesota Twins team who are winners of three of the last four and coming off a series win against the Detroit Tigers 2-1. With the postseason hopes still alive for both teams, this should make for an exciting series. Let’s dive into it!

Key Stats

Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins have been a .500 team over the last ten games. They are coming off of back-to-back series wins against the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies. Simeon Woods Richardson will be taking the mound in today’s game. On the year he has been solid with a record of 3-1 record and in his last outing had a quality start, going six scoreless innings and striking out five batters.

As for the offensive side of the team, they are still without star shortstop Carlos Correa. However, they are led by Willi Castro who leads the team in batting average (.263), OBP (.411), and hits (98) among qualified hitters. This is a team that has been a top-five offense the entire year statistically and has a lot of pop throughout the order. Winners of three of the last four, they need to continue to stack up wins with the Red Sox, Royals, and Mariners hot on their tail in the American League playoff race.

To transition to the New York Mets, they are looking to fix their two-game skid they have been on. Despite the two losses, they have won five of their previous seven games against the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves. With Jose Quintana on the mound, the Mets have been holding their own. With a record of 5-6, Jose will look to get the Mets back on track. In his last game, Quintana went five innings, only giving up three hits, gave up one run, with five walks and struck out six batters.

The Mets’ offense will look to perform a lot better than they did over the past three games, with a negative run differential of -11. Jesse Winker is still looking for his first hit in the orange and blue after pinch-hitting in his first game for the Mets yesterday after being traded to New York. He has stepped into an offense that has been top ten statistically all year long and with the addition of Winker, looks to be improving.

Prediction

I am predicting that the New York Mets will bounce back, get back in the win column, and defeat the  Minnesota Twins in today’s game. Jose Quintana has been successful against the batters of the Twins, holding them to a .260 lifetime batting average with 124 strikeouts in 21 outings against them. I look at Francisco Lindor to break out of his mini-slump. Over the past four games, he only has two hits in 15 at-bats. The switch-hitting star is ready to keep his New York Mets in the race for a playoff spot.

Final Pick

New York Mets ML -118
