UFC 302: BetMGM Reveals the Most Bet Fighter Props of the Significant Event

UFC 302 headliners Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier

With UFC 302 right around the corner, fans across the globe are sending in their last-minute selections to add to bet slips. With just over 24 hours until the event is scheduled to commence, BetMGM Sportsbook has revealed the most bet fighter props for the card on their site.

UFC 302 will be headlined by lightweight champion and pound-for-pound no. 1 fighter Islam Makhachev defending his title against former interim titleholder Dustin Poirier. Makhachev has not lost a fight since his UFC debut in 2015, while Poirier, though not on a win streak, has remained one of the most popular fighters in the division.

The Most Bet Fighter Props for UFC 302

According to John Ewing of BetMGM Sportsbook, all five of the most placed wagers on their site are from the main event title fight. Ewing reports that Dustin Poirier to win the fight by knockout is the most popular prop bet of the event at +650 odds.

Poirier winning by submission at +1800 was also a popular bet, as well as the specific prop for him to win by guillotine choke at +2500. Islam Makhachev had one of his props in the top five, with his line to win by submission listed as the third-most placed wager at -120.

The top-five most bet fighter props for UFC 302 according to BetMGM Sportsbook were listed as follows:

  1. Dustin Poirier by KO/TKO/DQ +650
  2. Dustin Poirier by submission +1800
  3. Islam Makhachev by submission -120
  4. Dustin Poirier by guillotine submission +2500
  5. Dustin Poirier by decision +1400

In the eyes of oddsmakers, Islam Makhachev is expected to barely break a sweat at UFC 302 in his third lightweight title defense against Dustin Poirier. Largely due to his status as the biggest betting favorite of the event, fans have instead turned to prop lines to find value in the main event.

As the top-ranked fighter in the UFC, Makhachev will break the record for the longest win streak in lightweight history should he get the job done on June 1.

Though the battle-tested challenger will be Makhachev’s first true lightweight opponent since winning the belt at UFC 280, Poirier has not won consecutive fights in nearly three years. The Louisiana native will be entering his third undisputed title fight with an 0-2 record in similar situations against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.

On DraftKings Sportsbook the day before the fight, Makhachev is lined as a 6-1 favorite.

Dustin Poirier’s Submission Gimmick

Through 39 fights as a professional, Dustin Poirier has never finished a fight with a guillotine choke. Yet, he has somehow convinced thousands of fans to bet on that exact outcome in a title fight he is heavily favored to lose against a champion who has never lost by submission in his career. Since his most recent win over Benoit Saint-Denis, ‘The Diamond’ has pushed a narrative and gimmick that fans have fully embraced.

Poirier has had a bad habit of hunting for guillotine submissions his entire career despite being a highly skilled striker. That pattern was never more obvious than in his most recent outing when the 35-year-old routinely pulled guard in search of a submission despite being outmatched on the canvas. His coaches pleaded for him to stop after round one, but the veteran would jump on the attempt again in the second round before winning the fight by knockout.

After the fight, Poirier told media and fans that he would “never stop” attempting the submission despite his lack of success and has since called himself the leader of the “Gilly Goose Gang” on social media.
