The 2024 US Open is just over two weeks away. This summer has been a crazy tennis schedule with Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the Olympics. Things are still happening in Montreal and Toronto as the tennis landscape shifts to Cincinnati and the 2024 Western and Southern Open. This is a combined event on the ATP and WTA Tour.
2024 Western and Southern Open Preview
This is a 1000-level event on both the men’s and women’s tours, so it will be similar to what we saw in Toronto and Montreal. Aside from the men’s side, Novak Djokovic, who won Olympic Gold, will skip this event as he did in Montreal. Carlos Alcaraz, the French Open and Wimbledon champion, will return after taking time off after a busy summer. Rafael Nadal will not play in this event or the US Open.
Everyone can remember the epic final between Alcaraz and Djokovic last year, which lasted three hours. Djokovic won in three sets. Alcaraz will want to return to the final, as his finish line was right there in the second set.
Along with Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Andrey Rublev, along with a loaded field of guys, have a chance to win this title.
On the women’s side of the field, the names include Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Maria Sakkari, Victoria, Azarenka, Carolina Garcia, and Elina Svitolina. Again, it is a loaded field in Cincinnati.
The 2024 Western and Southern Open runs from August 12th through August 19th in Cincinnati.
As previously mentioned, it is one of the better events on the ATP and WTA schedules. It is a loaded field in Cincinnati. We have seen some great matches and upsets take place at this event. When the tournament opens, there are many intriguing first-round matchups, including Cerundolo vs. Khachanov, Fritz vs. Nakashima, and Shelton vs. Opelka. Sebastian Korda will also be in action.
In addition, we will see Tiafoe taking on Davidovich Fokina and Rune taking on Berretini. There are juicy matchups in the first round of the Western and Southern Open.
