After three games in the 2024 NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks find themselves staring defeat in a position that no team has ever overcome. With what could potentially be their final chance to pick up a win on their home court, the Mavericks will attempt to prevent a series sweep at the American Airlines Center in Game 4.
With a 3-0 lead, Boston has improved to 15-2 overall in the playoffs. Teams with a 3-0 lead in the NBA Playoffs have historically gone 156-0 in their respective series with only four of those going to a deciding Game 7.

Key Stats
Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum finally showed up for Boston in Game 3, scoring 31 points. However, he still shot just 4-13 from three and the team as a whole still could not find the mark, shooting just 46.3 percent from the field.
While Boston has shown offensive dominance at times, their defense is still lacking and reliant on open misses. Per NBA.com, the Celtics gave up 25 shots classified as “open” and 19 considered “wide open” in Game 3. Those two categories are over 50 percent of the total field goal attempts from Dallas, who shot just 44 percent from the field.
Dallas Mavericks
Dallas still does not look to have a good grip on the Celtics’ offense even without Kristaps Porzingis on the court. The constant ball movement has this defense consistently rotating and giving up open threes, which Boston thrives off of.
While Luka Doncic received mainstream criticism for his performance in Game 3, do not expect to see much of Tim Hardaway Jr. in Game 4. In the 19 minutes he played on June 12, Hardaway Jr. was 0/5 from the field and finished with a team-low plus-minus of -16.
Prediction
The Mavericks had their best game of the NBA Finals in Game 3 but still only managed 99 points and could not win the game. That does not bode well for their title hopes and neither does being down 0-3, but the reality is that both Game 2 and Game 3 were decided by just a few possessions.
A lot of the criticism has been on Luka Doncic in this series after he fouled out in Game 3, but that was just his third time racking up six fouls in his career. Other than that, Doncic had a poor offensive night and still ended up with 27 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Kyrie Irving also finally showed up for Dallas, dropping a game-high 35 points.
Final Pick
The two most recent games of this series have been much closer than both the final score and the series record would suggest. Just a few possessions went in Boston’s favor, swinging the pendulum in their direction. Had Luka Doncic been on the floor in the final six minutes of Game 3, the series would likely be 2-1.
VegasInsider reports 61 percent of public bets being placed on Boston, yet the spread has completely flipped on the Celtics from -1 to +1. The Mavericks will not be getting swept on their home floor.
Best Bet: Dallas Mavericks money line (-110)
